So I made a smallish set for the neon lights round @retro_icontest . This round was definitely challenging. I've never really used neon coloring, so I'm not sure if I really captured the theme or not.

Date: 2024-02-15 02:31 am (UTC)I was kind of unsure of myself because all the neon inspo icons were so cool and so different from anything that I usually do. But I did have a lot of fun trying different things to get a neonish effect.
Glad you liked the complex composition in #3. I like blocking in icons, but mine never seem to look as good as some of the blocked icons I've seen before. But I was pretty pleased with the way #3 turned out.
#5 definitely turned out to be one of my favorites. It was a lot of texture work to bring out the colors and lights and to cover the pixellated bits.
Glad you liked #4! As simple as it looked, I actually painted the shadows to give it a more shadowy look. I was actually surprised that it turned out so well!
Thanks so much for pulling themes and ideas from all those old communities! I'm having so much fun with them! Have you looked into 20muses? I'd love to do some themes from there if possible.

Date: 2024-02-15 08:53 am (UTC)ikr? same here! But I love having challenges that make me leave my comfort zone. I'm not sure the results are always what I want them to be ;D, but I'm definitely having fun and I'm sure I'm also learning things.

The last column ("used") indicates which ones we've already done. So it'll probably take a while before it comes around again. I still have over 100 comms to check out, and about half a dozen possible challenge posts from all different comms on my shortlist.
